Blog five term 2 Brad Novak

As a leading Urban Pop artist, Novak's uniquely styled work has resulted in his profile rapidly rising on the international art scene, and a correspondingly hot reception with art lovers.

Born in Auckland in 1976 with Croatian heritage, Brad Novak (aka NBP76) is both a professional artist and a public health doctor.

A strong desire to make a difference culminated in Novak graduating from Auckland Medical School in the late 1990s. However, a turning point in life occurred while living in London with his wife in 2000-2001.

Brad Novak, Reservoir Kiwi, 2010

Portraiture. Term 2

The Queen by Lucien Freud
I like this painting because its detailed yet it has a sense of looseness and simplicity at the sometime, And i like that it has those features that the queen has that makes her the queen the we know so well.

Untitlted by Chuck Close
I really like this painting a lot! it has unbelievable detail sharpness the lighting that bounces off the face is perfect, the hair looks life like, now that i think about it the whole picture looks life like! the focus and defocus is spot on! Love it!

New Zealand Painting. Term 2

I like this painting because of its bright colour and excellent shading, The artist managed to make the place look real and very peaceful, I kinda want to go there. personally I am automatically attracted to realism when it comes to paintings and drawings.

I do like this painting a little because i find pink a vibrant and a beautiful colour and works well with the black scratchy look how ever i do not like abstract very much and this if i look back at it i do not think it is "amazing art"

Blog four term 2 Stencils

Banksy

"Banksy is a pseudonymous United Kingdom-based graffiti artist, political activist, film director, and painter.
His satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine dark humour with graffiti executed in a distinctive stencilling technique. Such artistic works of political and social commentary have been featured on streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world.
Banksy's work was made up of the Bristol underground scene which involved collaborations between artists and musicians. According to author and graphic designer Tristan Manco and the book Home Sweet Home, Banksy "was born in 1974 and raised in Bristol, England The son of a photocopier technician, he trained as a butcher, but became involved in graffiti during the great Bristol aerosol boom of the late 1980s. Observers have noted that his style is similar to Blek le Rat, who began to work with stencils in 1981 in Paris. Banksy says that he was inspired by "3D", a graffiti artist who later became a founding member of Massive Attack.
Known for his contempt for the government in labelling graffiti as vandalism, Banksy displays his art on publicly visible surfaces such as walls, even going as far as to build physical prop pieces. Banksy does not sell photographs or reproductions of his street graffiti, but art auctioneers have been known to attempt to sell his street art on location and leave the problem of its removal in the hands of the winning bidder."

I like Banksys work because its simple, not a lot of colour and has a sense of humour. I also like that Banksy is mysteries and unique, i'm not sure the proses of he/she used for the stencilling and spray painting and going back the the subject of banksy being mail or female i think its a girl because of the name this person decided to use, i could be way wrong but yeah thats my opinion.

This  art work by Baksy is located in London.
Girl with a balloon, is or can be interpreted by how the viewer sees it.  the balloon is like a symbol of hope, the girl in the art work seems to be letting the balloon go. this could mean that she is letting go of hope. For me, I suppose there is a deeper meaning, however personally there is no real meaning to it.  I just like it for how it looks and potentially, the meaning that it could have.

"What is the deeper meaning of Banksys Girl with Balloon, for example? On the surface, at first glance, this is simply a charming painting of a small child (in black and white) reaching for her lost heart-shaped balloon, with the balloon being the one and only bright spot of colour in the work. Viewed simply on that level, Perhaps Banksy has a deeper message here.

A balloon can be symbolic. And this balloon is heart-shaped. It can stand for our dreams, our aspirations, even for innocence or love.

When looked at in that way, what is Banksy really saying with his simple, almost cartoon-like piece of art? Before we can answer that, it is necessary to ask some fundamental questions. First, has the balloon escaped, or has the child released it? Does the balloon represent something lost, or does it represent a gift being bestowed on the world?
The artist does not answer these questions. Any answers must come from the person viewing the art.

There is Always Hope

Left out of the equation so far are the words stenciled onto an adjoining wall by Banksy: There Is Always Hope”. These words are separated by space from the image of the girl and the balloon, but the words are still a part of the overall image. So regardless of how the viewer interprets the image itself ” as a visual representation of loss, or the hope of new redemption ” Banksy gives us all hope with four simple words: There Is Always Hope. Hope is the opposite of despair. Hope is the opiate of the common person."
